Since Roman times the French word "Couture" har referred to cultivated land. In the Middle Ages the Squire of the local fortified castle (a ten-minute walk away) allowed his most deserving vassals to cultivate part of his land for their own use.

Today Le Jardin de la Couture - a place where even ideas bloom - is a private rural garden established and looked after by its creators.

The various vegetable plots have been created by Agnès and reflect the four seasons. She draws her inspiration from Gilles Clément's concept of "Gardens in Movement". Organic fruit, flowers and vegetables (some now considered as being old-fashioned) are grown in a completely natural setting. Jean-Pierre designs the art works and statues which are displayed in the mixed borders. Apart from surprising visitors, these brighten up the garden and contribute to its calm and relaxing atmosphere.
